Build on an isthmus between lakes Monona and Mendota, Madison is renowned for its beautiful scenery. A total of 5 area lakes and over 200 parks provide an abundance of year-round outdoor activities from hiking, biking, swimming, and sailing in the summer to cross-country skiing, snow sailing, and ice fishing in the winter. Madison offers a variety\u00a0of things to do before and after conference sessions. Within blocks of most conference hotels and one block from the Memorial Union is the iconic State Street, a beautiful pedestrian\u00a0mall. Connecting campus to the state capital, a walk along State Street features many significant Madison destinations such as the Overture Center\u00a0for the Arts, the Madison Museum\u00a0of Contemporary\u00a0Art, The Orpheum\u00a0Theater along with many restaurants, bars, and shops. Once you make it to the Capitol, take a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tours.wisconsin.gov\/pub\/Content.aspx?p=Capitol%20Tour\">self-guided tour<\/a>\u00a0of this beautiful\u00a0and historic building. If you&#8217;re not quite up to walking down State Street or up Bascom Hill there are plenty of other modes of transportation to get you where you need.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/metro\">Madison Metro Bus System<\/a>\u00a0travels throughout downtown Madison including routes to and from the UW campus area. Biking is also a popular mode of transportation and Madison offers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/madison.bcycle.com\/\">bicycle rental stations<\/a>, several rental shops, and extensive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatermadisonmpo.org\/maps\/daneCountyMapforBicyclists.cfm\">bike trails<\/a> within the city and surrounding areas. Madison also offers taxi and rideshare options. Uber and Lyft are both available in town.
