Here you will find many great restaurants and bars. For example, Collectivo Coffer and Wonderstate Coffee are nice places to grab a bite in the morning. Fromagination is a great cheese monger; Wisconsin is the Dairy State after all.<\/li><li>Saturday morning brings the <a href=\"https:\/\/dcfm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dane County Farmers\u2019 Market<\/a> to the square. This is the largest producer-only farmer\u2019s market in the USA.\u00a0 It is a weekly festival with lots of food options.<\/li><li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol100th.wisconsin.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wisconsin State Capitol<\/a> is open to the public and well worth visiting.\u00a0 You will be impressed by the variety of marbles, granites, and other colorful stones.\u00a0 See how many badger sculptures you can find, and go up to outdoor balcony at the base of the dome for a fine view of Madison.<\/li><li>You\u2019re surrounded by lakes. Just outside the hotel is Lake Monona. There is a nice walking path along the lake (which connects to a 20k loop all the way around). You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/parks\/canoekayakrental\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rent small watercraft<\/a> and paddle around.<\/li><li>Walk around campus followed by food\/beer at the <a href=\"https:\/\/union.wisc.edu\/visit\/terrace-at-the-memorial-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Terrace<\/a>, a large outdoor beer garden that is the main campus hangout.<\/li><li>Wander over to the east side and Willy St (really called Williamson St). Go down Willy for good coffee, food and pastries. Check out Lazy Janes and Batch Bakehouse for some memorable bites.<\/li><li>Are you a coffee snob? If so, walk down Johnson Street to Johnson Public House (JPH) for some of the better coffee and espresso drinks in town.<\/li><li>Visit the free Henry Vilas Zoo (a very good zoo, adjacent Lake Wingra and the University Arboretum).<\/li><li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitmadison.com\/downtown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> for downtown info and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Tourism-g60859-Madison_Wisconsin-Vacations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> for general ideas and more info on Madison.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Around Madison<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.wisconsin.gov\/topic\/Lands\/WildlifeAreas\/horicon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Horicon Marsh<\/a>, the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the USA.\u00a0 Horicon Marsh is known for its exceptional birding opportunities.<\/li><li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.wisconsin.gov\/topic\/parks\/devilslake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Devil\u2019s Lake State Park<\/a>, Wisconsin\u2019s most popular state park.\u00a0 Devil\u2019s Lake is a clear glacial lake surrounded by 500-foot quartzite bluffs.<\/li><li>Float the Wisconsin River.\u00a0 The Lower Wisconsin River is the longest free-flowing stretch of river\u00a0in the Midwest.
